The HP LTO-3 C7973W tape has a recording density of 245kBits/inch, a significant improvement over the previous 188kBits/inch. Data transfer rates have also increased over the previous generations 40 MB/s to 80 MB/s native and similarly the capacity has also increased from 200 GB to 400 GB native. Tape length for the HP C7973W LTO-3 W.O.R.M tape is about 8.0 micrometers. Compatibility for the HP C7973W LTO-3 W.O.R.M tape media is compatible with all LTO-3 tape drives. The HP C7973W has a durability of at least 1,000,000 head passes. The archival storage life is estimated to be around 30 years for the HP C7973W LTO-3 tape cartridge. Like all LTO tape cartridges, the HP C7973W also features the LTO-CM (Cartridge Memory) to allow for faster access.
